Features
DaVinci-MIMS is a Modular Instruction Management System used for training students using HTML written lessons. We have partnered with several companies to provide lessons for you. However,you can implement any lesson you have written yourself and saved in HTML format. The system includes many features that facilitate students taking tests, viewing imbedded video's, sounds, Text-to-Speech, and several other multimedia capabilities. Following is a list of features:
TEACHER UTILITIES

| Lesson Repository - This is
where all of your lessons are held. This is where tests can be
added, changed, or printed. It includes 3 user defined buttons
that will appear on the screen as the student takes a lesson The test generator includes Multiple Choice, True/False, Fill-In-The-Blank, Short Essay, Matching, Program, and Venn Diagram question types. It also includes the ability to print tests, randomly generated or sequential, multiple sets, with or without answers. |

| Lesson Scheduling is where you can schedule students through a list of modules. You can create a schedule manually, or use the Automatic Rotation feature. The Automatic Rotation schedule can schedule students to go through a series either sequentially (take each lesson in turn), or randomly. The Automatic Rotated Random schedule is able to take into account lessons students may have already taken in the past, and will not schedule them to take the same lesson again. | |
| Student attendance is tracked automatically when the student logs into DaVinci-MIMS. Using this feature, you can report attendance, modify it, or export it for use any another attendance program. | |
| The Student Portfolio is where all of the student's activities are held. When he or she takes a test, it is stored here, and can be viewed, graded or printed. You may also mark tests for retake here, or print several reports. | |
| The Setup feature allows you to change how DaVinci reacts in some areas. | |
| The Utilities includes a
Backup Data option, and an HTML Editor. The backup feature will
back your data up to a location which you specify. The
restore option is located on the Administrator Utility tab, since
restoring data will overwrite, it is something that should be used with
extreme caution. The HTML editor is a simple text based HTML editor that will allow your make simple changes to lesson files. |

| Station Setup is where you set the lesson that will appear on a particular workstation when someone logs into DaVinci. The lesson can also be set on an individual or class basis, but if the individual or class does not have a lesson set, the Station Setup setting is used. | |
| The Teachers table is a list of teachers who use the DaVinci-MIMS System. It includes the User ID, Password, Name and Address/Phone # information. | |
| The Student table is where the list of students is held. It includes all the basic information, including User ID, Password, Name and address. It also includes information about the student's classes, attendance, portfolio information, schedule and lesson history. | |
| Using the team option, you may manually create teams that can log in together and take lessons at a single workstation. There is also an option that will help you in teaming up students that you may not wish to be paired together. Teams are also created in the Rotation Schedules mentioned above. | |
| Courses is a simple table of courses that can be attached to a class. | |
| The Classes table is where all of the class information is held. It includes the Course #, Teacher, Period, and Description as well as a grading scale. Scheduling information is also held in this table, which is used during the scheduling process. From this location, you can view all the students a class, or add students to or remove them from a class. | |
| The Holiday calendar is a listing of holiday's for the school year. This information is used during the scheduling process to avoid scheduling students for lessons on school holidays. | |
| The Standards table holds a list of standards which may be attached to lessons or tests. These standards may be reported through the student portfolio. | |
| The messages option allows messages to be sent from the teacher to the student.. It can be configured to allow the student to send messages to the teacher, other students, teams or the administrator. | |
| The grading scale is where you list which percentages equate to which letters. It allows you to use either whole or decimals. You can have multiple grading scales. | |
| The attendance Codes are used for tracking attendance. You can add to the normal Present and Absent codes. | |
| Datasets allows you to have more than one set of data. DaVinci comes with 2 datasets, one with sample data, and another one called Teacher Lessons, both of which can be used for learning. You may easily add your own datasets | |
| DaVinci also comes with an extensive help file that should give you information on anything you are trying to do. The Sample Dataset also comes with several lessons that can be used for training purposes. |
ADMINISTRATOR UTILITIES

| The setup button from the Administrator Utilities page contains several features that the system administrator only should have access to | |
| The Archive option allows you to move student, class, and portfolio information to a different dataset and removes it from the current dataset. This will "clean the slate" for a new grading period. | |
| Restore data from backup allows you to store data that was previously backed up. This should help you recover from data that might have been lost due to hard disk failures or some such catastrophes. | |
| The Data Browser is a low level data browser that allows the administrator to browse and change the DaVinci tables freely. | |
| When DaVinci is first installed, there are help messages that pop up everywhere to help you understand where you are and what is going on. The Reset Help Messages option allows you to turn all of these messages on or off, or toggle them individually. | |
| The Unlock Codes feature is simply a copy protection option used to ensure the validity of your DaVinci-MIMS copy. | |
| The Bug Report can be used to report any bugs or additional features that you would like to see in DaVinci. It will present you with a form which you fill out, then you can e-mail the information to DaVinci-MIMS personnel, which will promptly review the information. | |
| The Reindex Files and Check Files options are used to validate the data integrity. It will recreate the index files, and check the file structures to make sure that they are what they should be. |
LESSON SCREEN

| This is the screen that the student will be most familiar with. This is the main area where the lesson is viewed. It will have a familiar interface, because it resembles a normal web browser and has many of the same features. | |
| You may have up to 3 user defined buttons at the top of the screen, with any caption you chose, and to run any program that you choose. Some lessons come with these buttons being used to run 3rd party software. | |
| There are 4 smaller buttons across the top used for taking notes, running the Windows calculator, printing the current page, or finding text. | |
| The student may also access his or her portfolio from this location to see what grades he or she has received on test or other assignments. | |
| At the bottom of the screen are listed several small buttons. These are used to activate the Text-to-Speech function. Using these functions, you can change the voice that is used, pitch and speed, and change the volume as well. |
