1. Where do I get lessons for my area?
A: We are in the process of gathering lessons from every area of education. Currently, we have a small collection available, but it is constantly growing. You may also write your own lessons. This is a good place to start, because you can tailor the lessons and tests to suit your needs.
2. How do I create my own reports?
A: DaVinci-MIMS will allow you to add reports that you have written
using Crystal ® Reports. You can use Crystal ®
Reports to create any report you desire. You can place it into the custom Reports
menu found on the Teacher Utilities tab in DaVinci-MIMS.
3. How do I get tech support?
A: Technical support is available through a FAQ on this web site, or you may E-mail us at SupportBack2You@DaVinci-MIMS.com .
4. What do I need to write lessons?
A: Any HTML editor will do. If it will write standard HTML files, DaVinci-MIMS should be able to use it. There are several other tools that would be nice to have like a digital camera, flat bed scanner and a good graphic editing program, but these are not absolutely necessary.
5. Does DaVinci-MIMS handle Java or other special web
page features?
A: Yes, DaVinci-MIMS uses the Microsoft Internet Explorer
browser, and, therefore, any features that it supports DaVinci-MIMS also
supports. Java Script, JScript, Cascading Style Sheets and several other
technologies are supported.
6. Does DaVinci-MIMS allow internet access?
A: Yes, DaVinci-MIMS will allow any web site to be visited that is linked into your lesson.
7. About how long would it take me to write my own
lesson?
A: Of course, this will vary widely depending on how complex the lesson is, and how many tests you wish to enter. You could write a small lesson with one test in approximately one to two hours.
8. What software programs would I have to have and understand to use DaVinci-MIMS?
A: Basically an HTML editor such as Microsoft's FrontPage. This is really the only tool you will need outside of DaVinci-MIMS itself to create lessons. Other software tools you might want to have and be familiar with are graphics tools such as Adobe's Photo Shop.
9. Can I scan in current lessons that I use or do I have
to retype them in DaVinci-MIMS?
A: If you have OCR software, you can scan those in and convert them to text and import them into an HTML editor. Or, if you have existing lessons that you have written using Microsoft Word or Corel WordPerfect, these can easily be converted to HTML using the Save As function.
10. Can I use DaVinci-MIMS to keep track of attendance?
A: Yes. DaVinci-MIMS automatically tracks attendance when the student logs in for the day. You may, however, handle attendance manually if you wish.
11. About how many computers would I have to have to
utilize DaVinci-MIMS in a classroom?
A: This may vary widely. You can have only one computer in the
class room if you wish and rotate the students. DaVinci-MIMS can handle teams as
well, so if you have a limited number of computers, you can form teams and make better use
of those computers.
12. Can DaVinci-MIMS run on the Apple?
A: No. DaVinci-MIMS is currently available only for IBM
Compatible computers running Windows 95 or later. We are planning to make an Apple
version in the future.
13. Is the program able to run on a Network and how?
A: Yes. DaVinci-MIMS is fully network compatible.
14. Is DaVinci-MIMS multi-lingual?
A: Yes and No. As far as the DaVinci-MIMS interface (meaning the buttons and tabs on the screen itself) itself goes , as of version 2 it is not multi-lingual. Future versions will be, however. On the "Yes" side, you can Create multi-lingual lessons and display them in DaVinci-MIMS. There are also Text-To-Speech (TTS) engines available that would read multi-lingual lessons to the student.
